日本海軍の舟:みかさ

Another set from my Historical Japanese Navy Ships series.

Admiral Togo and his flagship, Mikasa have sailed into history books for their role in the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. The Mikasa Koen, in Yokosuka is her final resting place. I got to Yokosuka Chuo station after an hour long train ride on the Keihin Express Line from Shinagawa on a soggy afternoon. Throughly dissapointed, because I was on a tight schedule and could not hope come back on a more photogenic setting. I was however, elated to finally see her nonetheless. Built by the British Vickers Co. in 1902 for a hefty 880,000 pounds, she was the last to join the “Six & Six fleet” of battleships and armored cruisers after a successful modernization drive launched by the Meiji government in the late 1800’s.

I've included a scanned copy of a pamphlet giving sum basic information on this particular ship.

日本海軍シリーズ

Some notable pictures from my Models of Historical Imperial Japanese Navy Ships series... this particular Tamiya kit took 110 Hours to build from scratch. I gave it a fictional German Navy camo scheme similar to Tirpitz just for fun...
