Trotting About In Shibpur

The rural township of Shibpur, is an instantaneous breather away from the smoke and haze that has become synonymous with the image of Bangladesh and its seemingly poverty stricken populace. Yet, one can hardly find any trace of that here, approximately 65 kilometers NE from central Dhaka. After a few days on a farm owned by Maleka Auntie, about a stone’s throw away from Shibpur Sadar, I was thoroughly impressed by the sheer profusion of greenery and the abundance of birds – I was able to identify about half a dozen. These shots were taken on the last day, a busy working schedule and heavy rain had stopped me from venturing out earlier. The rice fields were now devoid of their corps at this time of the year, a thin sheet of water had turned the fields into a gigantic lake. A plethora of Egrettas and other birds have gathered to feed on the fish, tadpoles and insects that seemed to have gathered here from out of nowhere.
